For a band that has been in the mainstream for 16 years now, the 'Beasties' have left an impressive mark on the musical world. They haven't 'sold out' as much as their comrades from the mid-eighties/nineties (unless their Godzilla soundtrack appearance is counted!).This collection takes you on a journey from their roots as a hardcore band in the New York City area, to being truly inspirational and eclectic in their provision of 'lets get drunk and jump around' tunes. The 42 tracks, yes 42, on this release are not in chronological order and nor does it really matter. From the thump and grind of 'Sure Shot' and 'Root Down' to the anthemic screams of 'Fight for your right', this album records the development of a group that can't be seen as jumping on a bandwagon. Instead they have gouged their own trench into a musical world that all to often drains into an homogeneous gutter. This is a must have.

Just bought this the other day. Must be said that "Get It Together" is one of my favourite Beastie tracks. This is one damn good collection, if only more "best ofs" were like this and not money grabbing crap put together by record execs.
Goto http://www.beastieboys.com/ for info on the new Double DVD video collection from the boys. Looks fantastic.
