Kate Bush. People either love her music or hate it, I've noticed. But to wit; The Dreaming is a really odd album which goes all over the place, from a Viet Cong soldier's musings to an account of a bank heist gone wrong to Harry Houdini carking it, all to accompaniment of Kate whooping it up in voice, on the piano and Synclavier. Perhaps the highlight of the record is the title track, which starts with the deathless line "bang goes another kanga on the bonnet of the van", and curiously enough features Rolf Harris on didgeridoo, but suffers little for it. Must've been her time in Canberra as a kid rubbing off. Personally, I do like this album a lot, though I wouldn't blame anyone for having a different view. As for Kate these days, I dare say she's stalking Tori Amos trying to get her mojo back. Oh well, Peter Gabriel finally released a new album last year after a similarly lengthy hiatus, there's hope for her (Kate, that is) yet.
